P90X is an intensive 90-day home fitness programthat combines a variety of exercise styles, including strength training,cardio, yoga, plyometrics, and stretching. Most of the workouts arejust under an hour in length, and feature Tony Horton as instructor andmotivational leader along with 3 or 4 fellow exercisers as backup. Forworkouts that require weights, one of the backup exercisers willgenerally demonstrate the exercise using the alternative resistancebands. The backup exercisers also demonstrate some moves at lower levelsof intensity for participants who arent as fit. With the exception ofthe Ab Ripper X routine, each workout generally begins with about a 10minutes dynamic warm-up and ends with a cool-down of 3“5 minutes.
TheP90X program is 13 weeks in length, exercising six days per week. Thereare three rotations that come with the program: classic, lean, anddoubles that all target different end goals. There are a total of 12workouts that are included with the program, each targets the body in adifferent fashion. 1. Chest and Back This supersetchest-and-back-blasting workout emphasizes two classic upper-bodyexercises, push-ups and pull-ups, to build strength and develop shape.The combination of these two push and pull movements will help you burnloads of calories while simultaneously attacking, strengthening, anddeveloping multiple muscle groups. 2. Plyometrics Get ready togo airborne. With over 30 explosive jumping moves, you wont bespending much time on the ground during this highly intense cardioroutine. Plyometrics, also known as jump training, has been proven todramatically improve athletic performance. The extensive full-body stretches that make up this routineuse disciplines from Kenpo karate, hatha yoga, and various sports toensure that your body is fully prepared to meet all P90X challengeshead-on. 8. Core Synergistics Each and every exercise in theCore Synergistics workout recruits multiple muscle groups to build andsupport the core (lumbar spine and trunk muscles), while at the sametime conditioning your body from head to toe.
